Larry and Connie rented a house for a month so we went down for a couple days. We saw a play, The Companion, last night, went to the UU Church today, squid lunch at Monterrey pier then the 17 mile drive. Wonderful cool weather!

Poor Africian- Colombian neighborhood,

Street seller of fried fish in the poor black neighborhood. Slaves were brought to Colombia in the 1500's and are still second class citizens in many areas. Cartagena is the seaport.

We had a great home hosted lunch with the family of a man who has started a community center for street kids.

There is one hill in Cartagena where there is a great view and La Popa Convent, which honors La Virgin de Candelaria.." Cartagena's patron saint,

Colombians believe they have the best emeralds. They did give us a free beer.

The walled city was built in early 1500's as part of Christopher Columbus's 3rd voyage.
July 20 th is Colombia's Independence Day . The colonial city is colorful, but hot and humid.

The airlines found Hal's iPad in the seat pocket where he left it. Now they need to get it from Bogata to here before we leave in two days.

In a colonial town Salento, Colombia, we experienced a latte artist..... And the design lasts until the last drop.

Wax Palm

The Colombia national tree is the wax Palm . It lives to 200 years and is the world's highest altitude Palm tree and it's tallest. A new seedling was planted and blessed in the tradition of the local Quimbayas people. I stopped to meditate among them on a 1.5 hour walk.

Coffee triangle

Coffee grows on the hillsides in Colombia. You pick the beans when they are red. They treat the flavor by the style of roasting.... Kinda like winemaking.
