Russian Orthodox Church

A fairly new cathedral at Petropavlovsk ( means Peter & Paul ) is located on the highest hill.

Kamchatka Local Lore museum

We are listening for at least on hour each day the book "Alaska" by James A Michener. He explains the history of the settlement of Alaska.... the indigenous people, then Russians, Seward and more.

This local museum in Petropavlovsk, Russia illustrated all we are reading . It makes it come alive!

This peninsula is difficult to get to without a boat or airplane . The Russian nuclear submarine base is in this town.
They only get 5-7 cruise boats a year so not much tourism. Our local guide was an experienced English high school teacher who makes almost $1000 a month. The guide said it is a big day in town when a ship comes in.

Slow days onboard

Looking forward to Russia 🇷🇺 tomorrow since I have not been off this boat for 7 days! Not needing the cane today so will take city tour. No pain meds either.

Yesterday was stormy but looks real clear now. Temp in 50's. We are eating in main dining room since it fills up the time.

We get BBC news and MSNBC in cabin so watched news about Supreme Court nominee. Really glad to be away from everything....

Hoping tenants moved out of Antioh clean and they or Nancy are finding us replacements before we come home.

We watch 1 movie a day and drink a little root beer vodka. We crossed the international date line yesterday,

I worked out my upper body yesterday to save my legs. Closed green circles show I exercised,

Rainy sea day

Rainy and rocky day at sea. Watched movie on TV about Mr Rogers and listened to Mitchner's book on Alaska as we go through Bering Straight.

Acrobats on ropes for entertainment tonight. We set back the clocks again for 2 nights in a row. Closer time zone boundaries up north.

Hamstring is getting better but still need to use cane Dad got me in Seward. No gym today....and eating more than we should. Wonderful conversations with people at meals that continue for a couple hours,,, Best part of sea days.

Love, Mom

In Seward, Alaska

I must have pulled a muscle or hamstring, so I can not hobble far.
Aleve and pain meds help so seems nothing broken. We have 5 sea days next on way to Russia so it should heal...

Dawe’s glacier

Early morning cruise up a fiord to see a glacier. Nice sun and scenery. A good place to breathe deep and meditate.
