Peking Duck

We need to ask our foodie friends in the Bay Area where we can get Peking Duck like this. We got it the first time in 1985 in Peking ( Beijing) with the kids. We all liked it a lot then but have not found the same style in the USA.
Fodor's ranked this "Spring Deer" restaurant in Kowloon to be the best! Reservations required and worth it. It costs 300 HK$ = $37.50 for the whole duck. We used a tortilla with hosin sauce spread over it, then sliced onion and cucumber and the duck. We brought the rest home for tomorrow's breakfast.

Hong Kong

Had breakfast in the room...salami, and cheese we took on plane.
For lunch we had Peking Duck at a famous restaurant.... Like little duck tortillas. I took lots of pictures on my camera I will transfer later. Wonderful...like your Mom had in China.
Now we have an afternoon ice cream at McDonald s since they are the only place on Hong Kong with free wifi.

We have been walking to Star Ferry, took to Kowloon for best duck, took subway to flower market and bird market , then shopping street where I got a red Mickey Mouse watch.

Tonight at 8 there is a lazer show over the water. Papa wants to see a couple temples. Tomorrow we will take a jump off and on bus.

Traveling feels right,

Love, Grandma

Flying over Siberia

Atticus,

Look at the globe and you can see that the fastest path from San Francisco to Hong Kong is up over the top toward Alaska and a part of the Soviet Union called Siberia. Papa took pictures to show you there was snow for hours below us.... And snowy mountains too. We were 36,000 feet above the ground .
We played computer games, ate and read ebooks about where we are going to while we were flying the 14 hours

We arrived at our hotel in Hong Kong and it was easy. They have a modern train similar to BART that takes you fast 24 minutes from the airport to central Hong Kong for $10 a person. That includes a bus that drives ou from the end of the train station to hotel. That is good because it was kinda sprinkling rain.

Time to get some sleep. Love, Grandmaa

Valentines Day at the airport

Hello Atticus.. And others.
Happy Valentines Day. Sorry that I did not make a pretty red valentine for you. I did think about it.
We had Aiko drive us to the BART station and we left our car in her driveway to get when we come home. They will not be home, but we will take a taxi from BART to her house for about $5.

Papa and I are at the gate and you can see the airplanes parked outside. Can you tell that the second one is 2 levels of seats? The first plane picture is a normal one, but they fly big ones to Hong Kong. We will be flying for almost 15 hours! There are bathrooms, food, music and lots of movies on board to help us pass the time. We hope we can take a nap too..TO HELP THE TIME PASS.

Hong Kong is 8 hours before us and a day later. Ask your parents about what happens at the international date line in the middle of the Pacific. We will arrive in Hong Kong at 8 pm so will go to our hotel to sleep. We took your Mom to Hong Kong when she was 10.8. It is a very beautiful city. I will send you pictures.

Enjoy your time with Grammy while your parents celebrate Valentines Day in San Francisco seeing Wicked. Tell Paxton I said hello and show him the airplane pictures.

Much Love, Grandma

Going to Hong Kong, China, Korea and Japan Feb 14- Mar 5

Hal did NOT  get picked today for jury duty because he protested the treatment of detainees in Arizona .  Today, We got a last minute cruise deal...even ocean view.

We will celebrate Chinese New Years in Hong Kong for 3 nights before the cruise and one night in Kobe, Japan in the end,  The weather will be cold....35-60 degrees.... A lot different than the Costa Rica we had originally planned!

Who would have thought I would be cruising so soon again, but I wanted to see the change in Shanghai, Beijing and Pusan since 1985 and 1973.  The ship will be much cheaper than hotels in the orient these days.

A day alone in SF

Hal left SF early to go to jury duty in Richmond. I woke up to a call from a woman asking me to consider a huge leadership role since her health is failing. I went to Grace Cathedral and walked the labyrinth to figure it out. See overhead shot of me in the center.

Then to Fairmont Hotel lobby.....remember from my wedding night. Then I walked down California to Chinatown, got some chocolate fortune cookies at the factory for Chinese New Years celebration...or Super Bowl ?

It is 4 pm and have not heard if Hal got picked. If not, we will be traveling somewhere.

Hip is holding up with the SF Hills. Hosted a couple for dinner at EN last night....and the expanded table held 4 people well.... Ordered in Thai food. Saw a play at ACT. Many of the monuments in SF are red and gold for the 49 ers.

Just checking in... Judy
